By the year 2010, in the European Union every fifth man will be over 60 years old. This will render preventative healthcare measures both for the individual, as well as globally for the healthcare system, extremely important. The major concern should be maintaining quality of life in advanced age. The life expectancy of men is falling further behind that of women. One factor involved could be that men before the age of 65 visit the doctor one third less frequently than women. A so-called "doctor for men" must have the urogenital competence of a urologist, the practical medical competence of an internist, and the practical endocrinological competence of a gynecologist. As this type of doctor does not exist to date, interdisciplinary scientists and doctors have united to form the Androx Society, to devote themselves to the subject of the aging person, in particular, the aging man. It is the goal of Androx to - in an equally differentiated and individualized way - reach a similar level in the areas of diagnostics, prophylaxis and therapy for men, as is becoming more and more matter-of-course for women.
